I sat at a Starbucks charging my iPhone 5 and working on my laptop. A guy sat across from me. We were in one of those recently refurbished Starbucks with the narrow tables and stools that pack in everyone into small spaces. Yes, I hate the new look that reminds me of something that belongs in small tacky airports and truck stops. I guess that’s what they are going for these days – The Honey Boo Boo Couture.
Anyway, this guy was trying to maneuver himself into his hobbit section, when he spilled his Grande Earl Grey tea on the table. Like a mini tsunami, the tea spread over the table and poured over it . I had presence of mind to move away but still I felt some of the very hot liquid penetrate into part of my pants. Luckily, I had lifted my laptop and phone up before they got wet. The guys next to me also got some of the tea on them. I could tell by the high pitch screams they let out.
There was commotion in the place. Starbucks employees were like first responders. Rags and bulk napkins were deployed. Clean up was accomplished. The only thing that wafted through the air was that Earl Grey scent…mostly from my pants.
I remained calm. My mind had gone elsewhere. I remembered a phrase a good friend told me from my childhood in Guam when I had something happen where I was getting angry.
She said that bad things will always happen or disappoint us. However, there is always something we can do to make it better.
It is like finadene sauce. You can put it on almost anything and it makes it taste better. I had to think about that at first. Then it made sense.
Finadene sauce is a dipping sauce made on island of Guam that is soy sauce( mainly, however vinegar and lemon juice is also used) based, with onions, boonie peppers ( very hot),salt and other spices people add to their liking. Most people used it with meat, fish, rice , etc. You typically don’t use it with sweets…That actually would be disgusting. Hey, but to each their own.
You can take some of the most bland foods and apply finadene sauce. Voila! It does taste better.
Sometimes we waste our energy on getting mad about the spills or accidents in our lives. It never makes it better. We should find something that makes it better. Like finadene sauce , that something will make you forget the pain, the loss, the hurt and the inconvenience. well, at least most things.
Some examples of making finadene sauce…but there are many variations.
