Marriage Lobby Day Slated for Feb, 17, 2009

Thousands of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Californians and allies will be converging on the California State Legislature to lobby for the overturn of Proposition 8 which prevents same sex couples from the right of marriage. Previously, the California Court ruled in favor of that right this past summer until the election in November when it was overturn by a relatively slim vote margin.

There has been much debate about the constitutionality of such an amendment and growing support to negate it.  Individuals interested in registering and participating in the lobbying effort on Feb. 17th in Sacramento can visit 2009 Marriage Lobby Day .

Those interested need to register by February 12, 2009 at 8:00 p.m. Pacific Time.

On Tuesday, February 17, join activists from across the state for a lobby day at the California State Capitol. This is a great way to share your story and take action to make a difference.

Lobby your representatives directly to pass two resolutions to overturn Prop 8. SR 7 (Leno) and HR 5 (Ammiano) will make it the state’s official stance that Prop 8 should be invalidated.

The event is free and open to all. Each participant will receive a lobbying training, advocacy materials, and be assigned to an experienced group leader. EQCA will arrange the meeting with your elected official(s).

  1. I keep asking people to remember to mention that THE RALLY IS 2/16. THERE ARE TWO EVENTS That week.

Why is it only one is getting advertised, when the first would be a great attraction for more people to come to, and then remain in town for the second.

  2. Check out the Event Calendar Link at the Equality website you link to to find out information on the Feb. 17 event.

Look for information on the Feb. 16 RALLY with Margaret Cho and several other speakers and performers.

  3. Mark,

Thanks for the additional information and clarification. The rally information is also significant and will be of interest to everyone. These are important events to support.
