Caring for the Women in Our Lives – October is Breast Cancer Month

I think of the women in my life – my mother, my sister, my daughters, my cousins, my grandmothers, my girlfriends, my aunties, my female mentors, my female work colleagues, the list goes on…

Their influence in my life has been and continues to be immeasurable.  Most of the goodness that has become part of my character as a man has come about because of them.

October is Breast Cancer Month. Although some men do get breast cancer, the vast majority who get diagnosed with this form of cancer are women.  Awareness, prevention, regular check ups and healthy lifestyles are all part of the support that we can encourage and provide to the women in our lives.

There are 7.2 new breast cancer cases per 100,000 women per year. The good news is that death rates have been falling since 1990. There is still so much to do.  A great site to visit is that National Cancer Insititute site to get more information: http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/types/breast and another site is the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month :http://nbcam.org/

Let us do our part to support efforts to educate and support the women in our lives when it comes to Breast Cancer. Also, let’s all give a little to assist in the continuing research to find a permanent cure. Our mothers, daughters, girlfriends, grandmothers are worth it.
