There’s no place like home. There’s no place like home. There’s no place like home. Whatever!
Obviously, you have never been to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
Gary and I and 11 of our close friends just spent five glorious days in that sun soaked paradise. It was so hard to leave.
We stayed in a cliff line Spanish villa mansion above the Zona Romantica district which had a multi-million dollar view of Pacific Ocean. We could see the ocean waves crash into the rocks below and whales swimming close to the shore.
Our mansion was called Villa Macarena which had five levels with eight bedrooms with their own private baths. Well sort of private. For those rooms that faced the ocean, if you showered, anyone looking up at your bathroom window could see you shampooing and soaping in the full Monte.
We also had a houseman, a cook and a maid. Our houseman was named Hilario and our cook was named Sylvia. We learned to love these two individuals. Who am I kidding? We could not live without them. Sylvia’s meals were waiting for us when we woke up in the morning, for lunch and for dinner. It was good food, too! Hilario was always ready to make us a drink or to assist us with an item. He made the best margaritas.
I did not get to know the maid at all. She was real quiet. It was nice to wake up and have breakfast and come back and find our room in tip top condition. Bless her heart and her pillow fluffing.
We ate our meals on a huge dining table in this open air patio area overlooking the pool which also had the Pacific Ocean as a living back drop picture. This area of the house was our gathering place. We could see the sun rise and set every day. One night we saw a fire cracker spectacular show in the distance. The night sky had stars scattered across the blackness which greeted us, when we staggered in from a night on the town, as we looked for a snack, before heading off to our rooms where we collapsed into after partying comas.
On the lower level was a billiard room which was the scene of a few games of pool. One of our friends hit his head with a cue stick after it got caught in the ceiling fan… long story. I even played a couple of games and won one. What a life for all of us!
We even had masseuses called in for in- house massages a couple of times. We celebrated a two of our friends birthdays with a talent show from our group of friends which included a drag show, an Acappella solo and a face lip sync puppet like performance routine. It was great! We also had a couple of exotic male dancers show up. It was a gay party after all!
The gay night life scene in Puerto Vallarta is fantastic and has something for every taste. We went to several clubs but my favorites were South Beach and Manana. I liked South Beach because it was a small bar and a nice place to start the evening. I got to know the guys that work there. That became my nightly hangout. Juan, Joey, Issac, and Axel were among our new friends there.
Manana was a very exciting dance nightclub that went all night long. They had a pool near their largest outdoor dance floor. There were people from all over the place. There was also an inside dance floor. I met several people from all over the world. Time passed by very fast. Before you knew it, it was 4 in the morning and you did not even feel that tired.
One of our friends had a mishap on the streets and fell down on the sidewalk and hurt his leg. In less than two minutes we had him on a cab back to the Villa. He was the same one who hit his head with the cue stick. His injury was not serious. Of course, the most important thing was that our night (the other 11 of us) was not ruined. Yes, that is true friendship. We still joke about it.
Gary and I took a few strolls through the Zona Romantica District in the day time. We loved walking along the hotel district by the beach. The waves hit deep into the shore. The people of Puerto Vallarta are beautiful both outside and inside.
We had a nice time lounging in the gay section of the beach called Blue Chairs where we sipped on mango margaritas and felt the warmth of the Mexican sun invigorate our bodies.
We also had the chance to work out at the Gold’s gym there. We have a membership in the Bay area so we could get into this one free. As soon as we entered the gym, we were welcomed by a loud volume blast of 70’s Disco Music. It was like walking into a dream sequence of Xanadu. I mean everyone was dressed in designer gym clothing and looking like they walked out of the most beautiful men and women in the world magazine. Let’s say we were not complaining. Well, after working out to “Macho Man” and “Turn the Beat Around”, we left Gold’s Gym knowing we will never have an experience like that again. We were pumped up!
Puerto Vallarta was especially good for Gary and I. It was great to get away and to be together in a place that was meant for lovers and romance. There is something about that place that just does something to your soul and hormones. You just want to hug everyone.
Our last night at Puerto Vallarta was hard. Four of us ended up at the South Beach bar to say goodbye to our friends. There were actually tears shed. There was a lump in my throat.
We were a sad bunch the next afternoon when we headed over to the airport. I think some of us would have jumped out of the shuttle if there was an opened door.
There are so many other things that happened during our time at Puerto Vallarta. I will write more about some of them in other posts. There will other things that I will not write about to protect the innocent and the guiltyJ. However, what was most relevant about this trip was that I got to spend time with these great friends of mine. I have never laughed so hard and sometimes bitched as much about each other in a place as wonderful and as intoxicating as Puerto Vallarta. I enjoyed spending time with these guys on this great vacation.
Auntie Em, forget you…….Where’s Sylvia…I need my breakfast……

Wow! I gotta say – it sounds like party central! although, I’ve never been, while the wife and I were staying in LA, we were always contemplating a Mexican cruise, but we “never got around to it”. Now I wish we had! I’m glad you had a great time.
