Newly Married Portia de Rossi and Ellen DeGeneres
With about about 20 guests, in an intimate ceremony, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, were married on Saturday, August 16th in their home at Beverly Hills. Taking advantage of California’s Supreme Court Ruling that lifted the ban on same sex marriages, the DeGeneres/deRossi union represent the thousands of marriages that have taken place since the ban has been lifted.
Unfortunately, anti same sex union groups have put on the November ballot a measure to have voters try to overrule the Court’s decision. Human Rights and Civil rights groups continue to marshall supporters to defeat that measure.
We have come a long way in one of the last battles for equal rights in this nation. I hope that legalized bigotry whether in the law or over the pulpit finally ends.
