Move over Paula!  Kara is joining the panel and you won’t feel as alone against those boy bullies, Randy and Simon.  Fox announced that Kara DioGuardi will be added as a fourth judge to the American Idol panel for season eight.

DioGuardi is a grammy nominated songwriter who has penned songs for artists like  Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani, Celine Dion, Faith Hill,  and Pink, and idol alumni like Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. She has also worked with such industry luminaries like Justin Timberlake, Santana, Dave Stewart, Tom Jones, Joss Stone and others.

According to show producers, American Idol originally was supposed to have a four judge panel. Based on that successful 4 judge format on similar shows on the international market, they decided to implement the model on Idol.

Last season, controversy that has brewed over Paula Abdul’s behavior on air over the years came to a climax when she had seemed to forgot that the contestants had not completed a second round of performances and was giving feedback on those performances. DioGuardi’s addition is seen in some circles to add some balance as another female judge to the panel to offset some of the Abdul’s public persona.

The popular show is in the midst of audtions and will air early next year.
