The High School Musical Franchise- This Generation’s Musical Footprint

Every generation of teens since the birth of the Movie Teen musical has had its defining movie. Those Annette Funicello/ Frankie Avalon Beach Movies, Grease,  Footloose, Saturday Night Fever, are among the few that come to mind. Some were more gritty than others but all focused on the younger generation and their issues- expressed through their music.

Granted the High School Musical franchise speaks to a much younger, much more female audience with a much more sanitized plot line, yet it has captured the hearts of a generation. No matter how many critical eyes may roll up and around, it has made its imprint and will marked the memories of this generation ( and their parents) for the rest of their lives. It will also make stars like Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens now legends for the rest of their lives.

High School Musical 3,  is the first sequel to actually make it to the big screen and has become the #1 movie in America. This Disney juggernaut is looks like a a franchise that will continue into a few sequels into the future.
