My work colleague and I looked forward to going to the Sri Thai restaurant at Hacienda Crossings at 4930 Dublin Blvd., Suite 620, Hacienda Crossings, Dublin, California 94568. I want you to know that address as a warning to avoid it at all costs.
We had previously been to the restaurant for a birthday party with members from our office and we liked the food. It seemed like a popular place.
When we went there the second time, the place was busy. We were seated and then waited for about 10 minutes before we were approached by the waitstaff. There were two women waiting the tables. One of the ladies served us soup and then took our order. We ordered our entrees and I also ordered a diet coke.
She did not write my order down and I commented to my colleague how I hoped she remembered what we wanted to eat.
Next to us was a table of about six men. They got their check from the other lady. They seemed exasperated since they had requested a separate check. That should have been my first sign that things were going to go south.
We waited for order for a considerable time. It finally came but no diet coke. The number of customers in the restaurant started to dwindle. The two ladies serving tables were so inattentive to their guests and they seem bothered when requests were made. It was awful how they treated the guests. They also seemed distracted. I tried to get their attention about my missing coke but with no success.
I shortly finished my meal. My colleague literally had her fork in her mouth when one of the servers came by and asked her if she were done, and before she could really answer, the server took the plate away! The look on my friend’s face was one of shock. I was in shock.
The aloof attitude of these servers were palpable and my temper was rising but I decided that we needed to just pay up and leave. I asked for our checks. I also asked for two checks. Our server came with one check. At that point, I was so upset, I decided to pay the difference with my card. My colleague paid her part in cash with a small tip.
We again waited for several minutes before the server came back to our table. There was hardly anyone in the restaurant. They were on the floor and both ladies passed us a few times but they were in their own little world and seemed distracted by something or someone outside.
I had to literally standup with the check tray and reach out to her to get her attention. It was another 10 to 15 minutes before she came back for me to sign off on my card. I did not include a tip. My colleague and I felt that the tip she left was sufficient considering the service we received.
We walked out the restaurant and we were getting ready to walk across to the parking lot when the server ran out of the restaurant and caught up to us. She said that I forgotten to leave a tip. I could not believe her rudeness. I told her that I had never had such bad customer service and she was not receiving a tip from me!
I later called the restaurant and lodged a complaint but received lukewarm response.
I have been in the restaurant and hospitality business. I have many friends who are servers. I am respectful and like to tip generously for a great dining experience. I think of the thousands of people who have lost jobs or are losing jobs ( including me) and see someone totally disregard their own, just appalls me. I am also sadden that Sri Thai takes such a lacksadaisical approach to the worst customer service experience I ever had in a restaurant.
The good food is not worth the rotten service.
