Fat Girls – Funny, Funny, Funny!

Fat Girls (2006) is one of the funniest movies I have seen that I rented from Netflix. Ash Christian who wrote, directed and starred as the lead, Rodney Miller, came out with a film that pushes the envelope with such great comedic timing. There are so many funny scenes in this movie that I cannot help but not wonder why I did not hear about this movie earlier.

It kept me perfect company while I was putting Christmas decorations away.  Yes, I was late putting them away this year. Hey, we have had a busy Christmas season!  The plotline of the film follows the adventures of these misfits of a gay boy, his obese girlfriend and her Cuban boyfriend in this high school in a small town in Texas. It has all the dysfunctionality you expect in a really good comedy.

Christian is great and is a triple talent with his writing and directing. Ashley Fink who plays his best friend, Sabrina, is perfect as the fat girl who not only understands him but who brings more dimension to her role rather than the usual caricature in most films. Robin de Jesus plays her boyfriend so dead on funny also.

Although the film definitely is gay themed, it is about growing up and being who you are in the final analysis. It also takes on the hypocrisy that kids have to deal with in adults and in institutions like church and school.

This is a perfect movie to watch with friends and just to laugh.  After all life is really funny sometimes and we are alright after all.  We all need to be reminded of that now and then.

  1. haha this is cute. i haven’t seen the movie, but from your point of view, and now mine’s, it’s worth watching. it didn’t show here though. and i don’t think they have copies of it in the video house.

  2. thedaythatidie,

I know that you can rent it on Netflix. If you do not have an account, you should. It is a very convenient way to watch DVDs. I hope you get to see this movie!
