Competition heated up on the American idol stage as several Idol contestants brought on strong performances last night in this week‘s round of competition. It was a Country Music theme night and country music legend Randy Travis was mentor to the idol competitors.

Adam Lambert
I know that there will be controversy about my favorite performer, Adam Lambert’s number “Ring of Fire” by Country Music fans every where….but WOW! He did a version of the song that had an Indian Southeast Asian vibe to it that was so different and unique. It blew me away. I loved it! I showed off his vocal range and also his unique brand of music artistry. He is one of a kind. I sometimes think he has already outgrown the Idol stage. I downloaded his versions of “I Can’t Get No Satisfaction” and “Black and White” from iTunes and it gets regular rotation on my iPhone. His voice quality is that good!

Kris Allen
Kris Allen actually stepped up from his boy band plateau and sounded like a true music artist with his soulful and heartfelt performance. He definitely is a real contender in this contest now.

Allison Iraheta
Allison Iraheta is a 16 year old rock powerhouse with vocals to be reckoned with and is one that could take the title also. She is amazing and so mature despite her age. Her personality bubbles through her performance that is edgy and comparable to contemporary professionals in the industry now.

Matt Giraud
Another amazing performer is Matt Giraud whose bluesy and jazzy style wins you over. There is so much soul to this guy and when he is on piano, you really get drawn into his performance. He is also one to watch out for in this competition.

Danny Gokey
Danny Gokey continues to be likable and strong in his performance. When he pushes those vocals out he really brings it out.

Anoop Desai
Comeback kid with confidence galore, Anoop Desai, gave the performance of his life and proved to us that he deserved a spot in this competition. He showed his vocal range like we have not seen him do in previous performances. Like Randy Jackson said, “the Noop Dawg is back!”
We are now seeing a real competition on American Idol. It has now gotten real interesting.
Definitely not Adam’s best performance, but I think he made the best of a tough situation. Let’s face it… He’s NOT a country singer. He doesn’t look like one… he doesn’t sound like on… he doesn’t even move like one.
He probably made the best decision possible, by taking a country classic and just doing a completely different arrangement.
Idol,
I agree that country is not his genre. However, this boy is musically talented and is actually in a category all in his own. I have never seen such a unique artist like him on the idol stage. I really see him going far if not on Idol but in the industry.
