The day before I departed from Guam I decided to go to the Chamorro Village in the capital city of Hagatna, Guam and partake of some of the Chamorro food there. I thought it would be a fitting end to my experience on the island. I came to attend the funeral of my sister in law Reina Leddy, but it turned out to be a reconnection with my Chamorro roots after an 18 year absence from the island.
As I savored the wonderful food and enjoyed the atmosphere of this little hamlet of cultural activity and commerce, I felt grateful to be from a place and a culture that is unique and beautiful.
