I have never been excited to see a film like I am excited to see “Precious” which premieres in November of this year. Based on the novel ” Push” by Sapphire, this film is not about special effects or an epic or an over the top comedy, it is a small film about a human being who rises above the worst of circumstances.
There is so much buzz from the pre-screenings of the movie that have come out of independent film festivals . It is about a 16 year old illiterate girl who gave birth to two children from an absentee father. She lives with an abusive mother and is subjected to the most dire ridicule at her school. She has something inside her that lets her somehow hold on to her soul. She is given an opportunity to go to an alternative school. That is where her life changes.
The show is realistic and gritty. The movie trailer captures some riveting glimpses of the performances given by the actors.
Newcomer, Gabourey Sidibe, is already gaining acclaim for a performance that is so beyond her inexperience in the acting craft that it transcends the script when she brings the character of Precious to life. With most of her experience in acting coming from theater in school, Sidibe is actually quite surprised how acting has unfolded for her.

Gabourey Sidibe as Precious
Mo’Nique, known for her over the top comedy, has been reported to deliver an award worthy dramatic performance of the character Mary. This is Precious’ angry, abusive mother whose own self-hatred practically destroys her daughter.

Mo'Nique as Mary
Mariah Carey is also dolled down to what many are claiming is one of the better performances of the year of anyone. She is the surprise and this performance distances her away from such bombs as Glitter proves the talent that was always there.

The Precious Cast
Co- produced by Tyler Perry and Oprah Winfrey, who believed that by lending their names to this small film, it will get more of the needed attention it deserves.
Lee Daniels is the Director/Producer.
Just curious — have you seen the movie yet, and if so what did you think? I just went and thought it was amazing!
Sasha,
I have not seen the movie yet but will do it soon. Once I do I will post something on it. Thanks for your feedback.
