The Host – Stephenie Meyer Surpasses Twilight By Leaps and Bounds

When I heard about Stephenie Meyer‘s book, The Host, I was hesitant to pick it  up dreading it was another sappy Twilight-like saga.   I am glad I gave it a chance because it has so much more depth than Twilight and the story is so good that it really establishes Meyer as a great author in the fiction genre especially in science fiction.

She takes a premise ( we have read or seen before) of a covert alien race that requires host species for their existence.  An invasion of earth takes place and human kind is at the brink of extinction.  What unfolds is a masterful story of alien and human struggle on a personal level that has far reaching effects to the broader story.

There is mystery and layering, psychological wrestling,  powerful human questions addressed and a group of characters you become attached to in this universe of the future she created.  I found it to be one of the most satisfying reads that I have had in a long time.

Don’t expect Twilight.  Thank God!   Meyer shows her amazing storytelling abilities at a whole other level while touching on deep subjects and keeping the story exciting to the end.

I know it will be a movie soon.  I hope it can live up to the book. I know. I know.  Movies rarely do.

Read The Host.
