The six athletes competing for Guam in the Beijing Olympics are relishing their Olympic experience. They are overwhelmed by the many amenities provided to them in the Olympic village and are awed by the many athletes they are meeting from all over the world. They are also amazed by the hospitality of the Chinese people and also the by the wonderful interaction they are having with cultures from all over the world.
The word “free” seems to be the popular term with them.
Swimmer Chris Duenas just got his official competition suit, sponsored by Speedo. Though the freestyle specialist hovers around 6 feet, the tiny, stretchable suit looks even too small for a toddler.
“It costs like $400-$500,” he said, smiling as he held it up for his teammates to see. “They gave it to us for free.” ( guampdn.com)
All the athletes are getting ready for their specific competitions in swimming, judo, flat-water canoeing, wrestling and running. I am especially proud that we have such outstanding young people representing the island of my birth. I can only imagine the pride that the people of Guam have for these athletes. Derek, Sean, Chris, R.J. Maria, and Cora we are cheering you on from all over the world!
