October is GLBT History Month – Noting GLBT Historical Figures

GLBT_Buttons200

In the 1990’s the month of October was designated as GLBT month, to recognize and commemorate gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender/sexual community history in America.  October was chosen because it was also when National Coming Out Day occurred and schools were in session.  Teachers and community leaders felt this was a good month since GLBT history is not actively taught in the public schools as a part of American history.

Having a History month as such helps raise awareness and also continues the cause for full equality.

  1. I was wondering if you can help spread the word about a new site to help out the lesbian and bi women community. I manage a site called beaver.com that is a social networking site similar to facebook. My dream is that it’s a place for all gay woman to connect througout the world to unite as one strong voice. Like facebook, members network both socially and for business. Members can blog, have photo galleries, display videos and much more.

I will really appreciate it if you help spread the word about Beaver.com and put a link to Beaver on your website and perhaps write a blog post about it.

Some people, generally strait people, seem to take offense to the name beaver. Yet I have not had one negative response from any lesbians. Women are empowereing the term Beaver with Beaver.com.

Thanks for reading this and I really hope that you help spread the word to lesbians and place a link on your site.

    Justine
