Masks in the Dark
by JP Leddy
Painted faces whip by me
Revelers enjoying the Halloween night
As flickering Jack ‘O Lanterns invite
from dark porches crisscrossed with cobwebs…
Everyone is someone else tonight
whether they be monsters or starlet
each are hidden behind a costume and
a false face muted in darkness…
The morning will come soon
some will return to their real selves
while others will simply not
but hide behind their masks inside…
Submitted to Monday Poetry Potluck- Halloween
Everyone is someone else tonight
whether they be monsters or starlet..
so true,
what a fantastic piece.
beautiful job.

Dear Tasi
The masks that people wear most of the times, become their true self… some of the times. I enjoyed your last lines so much… This one is very interesting… thanks for sharing…

I knew you were going to use the idea of people always being behind a mask as I started to read this!! Loved it, and so, so true (she says slipping behind her mask of demureness).

For some people it’s Halloween 365 days a year. Nice Potluck dish!
Thank you, Eric. Always good to serve up a treat for the potluck.

ah yes, sometimes the mask is much more comfortable than the “real” face.

…those lines speak volumes…nicely done.
nicely put, a little psycho-babble with a poetic framework – a delight to read!
i leave this page a different person. . .
🙂 thank you for sharing
Started off with some nice rhymes, and the message at whole is so true–the mask often does feel so much better than a return to the real. Nice work!
