It was decision time last night on American Idol, another season where America’s votes decided the final two contestants who will compete for the big title next week.  The talent level this year has been so good that performance and relatability of a contestant weighed heavily.

Jena Irene, the 17 year old who was a wild card add-on by the judges  and Caleb Johnson , who is the resident rock star marvel are the two America has chosen on American Idol as finalists. Both of them share tons of talent, great musical capabilities, and approachable personalities. They are already stars in their own right.

For the first time in “American Idol” history, fans will be able to hear the Top Two Finalists Jena Irene’s and Caleb Johnson’s new original songs before they perform them live during the AMERICAN IDOL XIII Season Finale. Both singles are streaming at americanidol.com and are available now on iTunes (iTunes.com/AmericanIdol). – American Idol.com

Next week final performances will be crucial.  They need to tap into Alex Preston’s ( Idol #3 who was voted off) fan base and see who they can woo for votes. It will be a battle to the finish.

I do favor Jena Irene to win the crown.  She is a great singer/performer.  It also has been a while since we had a female winner. However, I love Caleb, too. Not an easy choice.

Although there has been much said about American Idol’s declining viewership, this year they worked hard to reformat the show to its betterment.  I know there are plans to make it even tighter and much improved next year.  With this rebirth, I hope this American institution continues for a few more years.  It is like a comfortable blanket which has given America the power to select their music stars in the most direct way possible.
