It came down to Jena Irene and Caleb Johnson last night on American Idol.  A slew of great performances from artists like Paramore, Jason Mraz, Kiss, Jennifer Lopez, Phillip Phillips, Jennifer Nettles, Aloe Blacc, John Legend, Darius Rucker, Lady Antebellum, Harry Connick, Jr., Randy Jackson , Keith Urban, and Idol contestants made the finale a great show.  Ryan Seacrest, as a fun self deprecating gesture attempted a duet with Richard Marx , one of his childhood music idols.

At the very end, Seacrest made the announcement that Caleb Johnson took the crown.  It was anyone’s call as to who would be the winner. Both Johnson and Irene were equally matched. However, the rock performances by Johnson throughout the competition will live in Idol history as some of the most memorable highlights of the show. Both of them, as well as many of the other top ten contestants are destined for successful music careers. They were just that good!

So what’s next? Season 14.   Get ready to audition and strive to live the dream that is American Idol.
