Salvador Tovar- Candidate for Emperor of San Francisco

I have known Salvador Tovar for over a couple of years now. He is a colleague and dear friend.

“Sal” ,as we call him,  is someone  I have known as a smart entrepreneur and a financial expert.  He is a self starter that has been involved in both the LGBT community and the greater community of the Bay area.  He is proud of his Latino heritage as he is proud to be an out gay man.

He is also one of the most generous people I know with his time and resources.

He has taken on as his theme -The Unicorn.  This mythical creature is known for its healing and magical powers. It has been used in the LGBT community as a symbol of it to many in terms of being something other than normal but extraordinary.  Even in darkest times , the unicorn brings light, magic and a way to come out of darkness.  It is the epitome of fabulousness.

So it is no wonder that Sal has adopted the symbol of the Unicorn. It is reflective of his spirit and how he wants to lead and serve.  He also invites all of us to be Unicorns.  The imagery is inspiring.

He is also personality plus.  Sal is engaged in everything he is involved in.  He is not afraid to do a split for SF Cheer where he has been a long term member or perform an outlandish number on a stage to get your attention, and more importantly, your donation for the myriad of charities he has supported.

He was an Imperial Crown Prince a couple of years ago for the Imperial Council of San Francisco. This is an organization founded over 50 years ago by civil rights hero, Jose Sarria, here in this city and has grown to nearly 70 chapters across the United States, Mexico and Canada. Founded in the drag community, it created a family of individuals who were united in raising money for charities and also as a safe haven for many LGBT individuals in communities where they were not accepted.  It’s officers and members are patterned after royalty protocol, and most earn their royal titles by the amount of money they have raised or their service to the community.

Each year, residents of San Francisco, Marin and San Mateo Counties have the opportunity to elect the Emperor and Empress of the Imperial Court for the coming year.  These two individuals will act as co-chairs over a myriad of fundraising events in 2016. They will also act as Ambassadors of the San Francisco Court and Council to other royal leaders of other cities or metro areas. They will invest in lot of hours of service while inspiring others to do the same.

Sal is the only candidate for Emperor this year. However, that does not insure he will win. He needs to garner 50%+1 of the votes that are cast on election day to win this title. Election day is this Saturday on February 20th at the following locations and times. To vote,. all you need is a  picture ID that proves you reside in San Francisco, San Mateo and Marin counties.

Where to vote for Sal on Saturday, Feb. 20th:

730 Polk Street  11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Castro Muni Station  12 noon to 6:00 p.m.

1347 Folsom Street 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Come out and meet Salvador Tovar, the Unicorn candidate, on Saturday.  Vote for him.  I will be voting for him to become the next Emperor of San Francisco.  I know that he will use that platform to raise the  funds for the most needy and take us along for the magical ride.

Note: The new Emperor and Empress will be announced at the Coronation Gala on February 27th. For more information, check out this link :  Imperial Coronation Gala
