This week the Tax Man collected on April 15th as the post office filled with tax filers and e-files were sent to the IRS. Another yearly American tradition passed not celebrated with tinsel and lights, but probably with a trip to the local watering hole.
One of my favorite TV shows, Ugly Betty, ended this week. Even though recently some of the writing and story lines lost some steam, the last few episodes were more true to the original comedic quality that made the series such a winner. America Ferrera was excellent in the title role. The ensemble cast which included Vanessa Williams and Judith Light were all consummate performers. It ended with the “Ugly” being removed from the title showing what we knew from the beginning that Betty was never ugly at all.
American Idol still disappoints me with the quality of contestants this year. However, with the selection of former Idol contestant and current hit music artist, Adam Lambert as mentor this week, the effect on the finalist’s performances was great. They actually improved their game doing Elvis songs. Adam gave good, honest feedback.
However having him on also reminded me of how good last season’s contestants were compared to this year’s contestants. I think the only bright stars are Crystal Bowersox, Lee Dewyze and Michael Lynche.
That is how I saw it this week.
