I never knew that when when I met a certain young man months ago, who performed drag, that I would be introduced and become part of a unique family.  It was not one that came about biologically but one whose members were handpicked by that young man, under his alias – drag personality Ana Mae Coxxx.  Thus was born the Haus of Coxxx.

I have never been in a fraternity but I have been in a family.  This Haus feels more like family.  It has its episodes of drama.  Sometimes there are arguments, hurt feelings, jealousies within the house but there is also this sense of deep love. I mean if anyone were to try to harm any member of the Haus…they would have to deal with the siblings.  I am not just talking about a fist fight but also swinging purses and sharp red nails!

There is some incestuousness in the family. Several have dated or slept with one or the other, even our Mama Coxxx ( shhhhh!).   These liaisons bring the biggest drama to the Haus especially when there are breakups.  There is some uncomfortableness for a while. However,  love and forgiveness and other men ( or women) come into the picture… so some sort of normalcy eventually returns.

We all have been given names in the Haus.  I am ” Sweet Coxxx.”   There are others like ” Mariah Coxxx” and ” Stiff Coxxx”, etc. There is some humor attached to these names associated to our personalities.  It also adds that extra touch of belonging.

Although the Haus is centered around our Drag Mama, Ana Mae, most of us in it are really not as attuned with that whole scene.  In fact there are a handful that attend her performances regularly.  There are some that complain about going to them like children will complain about having to wake up early to attend church and sit through a boring sermon.

The Haus is really not about drag but about supporting each other even in abstentia.  Ana Mae has really surrounded herself with unique and strong personalities that create a great dynamic.  Each in the Haus comes with unique individual talents and strengths. I think we are still trying to really get a vision of what kind of strength our association with each other can really become as friends, and more importantly,  as brothers and sisters.

Ana Mae has created a family.  Now  it is up to the members of the family to make it something more than a Haus… but make it a place where created brothers and sisters can really bond establishing life long ties of love and unity.
