When Will I Know
By: JP Leddy
Opening up enough to let them in…
Close to my flesh but not to my heart…
These beginnings bring new feelings back…
However, trust is still shy standing in the corner…
When will I know when to get off the carousel…
The dance card is full but the dance ends too quickly…
I want the forever song where he never says goodbye…
Truth be known , it is I that lets go before it really begins…
Afraid that my heart will bleed and hurt by betrayal again…
When will I know to find and trust a true love again…
( The above movie theme song is one of my favorites and inspired the poem above. Special thanks to my face book friend Rivas for posting it).
This poem has been submitted to the Thursday Poets Rally Week 40
I also humbly accept the Perfect Poet Award Recognition for Week 40 and I thank those who nominated me. I would especially like to thank our fearless poet leader ,Jingle, for hosting and coordinating the process.
As tradition here is my acceptance haiku:
The award brings a smile
Bright picture that shines so bright
Not as bright as my heart
I nominate Lady Nimue for the Perfect Poets award.

Truth be known , it is I that lets go before it really begins…
Afraid that my heart will bleed and hurt by betrayal again…
When will I know to find and trust a true love again… Those lines are like a mirror of my soul…truth.
David,
We are kindred brothers.

Ouch!! There are two phrases that I liked the most. The first one being quite paradoxical ‘new feelings back’ and the other being ‘The dance card is full but the dance ends too quickly; for its beautiful and again a little paradoxical structure.
Mihir,
Thanks for visiting and commenting. The quest for true love after heartbreak is often full of paradox.

This speaks to me on a very personal level. The fear of trusting someone, yet the yearning to be in love again, until the end of time. ‘Trust is still shy standing in the corner’ Beautiful 🙂
mypast,

“However, trust is still shy standing in the corner…”
Familiar words to me…hopefully “trust” will find a reason to demonstrate courage. I love your poem
David,
I hope trust does.
JP
“close to my flesh but not my heart…” wonder how many you speak for with that. The human condition these day, eh? Lovely, heart-felt poem.
Congratulations on the award. Deserved! Such a sweet haiku in response and a fine selection to pass it on to. Good job.
One of my fave songs too ….

Lovely piece, JP. Isn’t that “forever song” what we all want? Thanks for checking out my poem–I’m glad you enjoyed it. Happy rally!
I can relate to this, JP.. the sense of fear is something I’ve felt before too. Takes a long time not to feel afraid anymore! lovely verses!

congratulations for the very well deserved award!
beautiful poem, i believe there is nothing called “forever” 😦 in today’s world long-lasting is becoming obsolete.
Trisha,
Thank you! I hope that we find ourselves less cynical in our modern world about love. Here’s hoping! 🙂
