300 – Rise of An Empire Does Not Reach The Heights of the Original

300-Rise of the Empire was an highly anticipated sequel to the first 300 film. Like most sequels, the actual film fell short of expectations. However, there are enough epic battle scenes, shirtless warrior hunks and visual effects to rate it a good enough popcorn movie.

The story was not compelling and even though there are great moments in the film, it is what lies between the moments that did not weave together well.   Acting kudos goes to Sullivan Stapleton who played Themistocles and Eva Green as Artemisia who gave strong performances and had electric chemistry when they were both on screen.  Rodrigo Santoro portrayed a more masculine and compelling Xerxes then in the first film.

Watching it in 3D gave it some visual excitement so I recommend watching it the movie that way.

If you decide to watch the film, do not expect anything great, just some good old fun movie watching…with popcorn.
