What is it about crafting insanity into a plot so twisted, and putting it on a screen with just a sprinkle of humor that makes it fun movie watching. In the tradition of those crazy Bette Davis and Joan Crawford movies from the golden era comes this twisted, sick, fun film called Gone Girl.
I never read the book. The film was an extreme roller coaster ride that the audience was finally in with the plot, mid way, and then taken into the high speed journey of crazy and enjoying it.
The story: Take a young couple, seemingly cute and perfect, and then fast forwarding them into the future with baggage and lots from the past. You get a recipe for the bizarre. Some may argue on a certain level a typical marriage without all the extremes. Hmmm. Anyway, that’s another discussion.
The movie does have some high sexual content but ,that all pales to the great plot and the outstanding acting especially of Rosamund Pike as Gone Girl herself, Amy Dunne; but so do the performances of Ben Affleck as Nick Dunne, Carrie Coon as Margo Dunne; and Neil Patrick Harris as Desi Collings. They are pitch perfect in their roles as dysfunctional lunatics.
Deception is an art form shown in this film and the gullibility of individuals to see what they want to see, One of the best films of the year. Get your popcorn out and enjoy.
